Four Fun Facts About Milford Ohio

We love Milford, Ohio. Our roofing and siding company is based in Milford, and we’d rather be here than anywhere else! We have decades of experience serving homeowners throughout the Cincinnati area, and our business has been built on our reputation for great, knowledgeable service at a fair price. We’ve served homes and roofs throughout the Cincinnati area, and we’ve got the local expertise to provide a great value across Cincinnati, but Milford is home!

We’re guessing there are a few things you don’t know about Milford, so we wanted to share some great stats about our hometown:

1. Our Milford Schools Are Ace!

Milford has a high school and junior high that share a beautiful campus up in the Miami Hills. We have six elementary schools – Meadowview, McCormick, John Pattison, Mulberry, Charles Seipelt, and Boyd E. Smith – that are spread out among the neighborhoods. But with only 6,000 residents (approximately), our schools are top-notch but mostly fairly small. In terms of getting a great education, among schools across the state of Ohio, Milford schools are in the top 4% (for the 2016-2017 school year’s rankings). That’s the 96th percentile! We’re proud of our teachers, students, and our school system.

2. Milford Straddles Two Counties

We’re a little bit Clermont, and a little bit Hamilton. (A little bit country, and a little bit rock n’ roll!) Our four square miles are mainly east of the border — mainly Clermont, that is — but we sit on the fence. (And we care for the roofs of both counties!)

3. Milford, Ohio’s Founder Fought in the Revolutionary War

John Nancarrow was the name of Milford’s founder. After the war, he began building on a patch of land that incorporates part of Miami Township, Old Milford, and Milford. The place where two rivers meet is Milford. The Little Miami River and its East Fork come together here in town, and it makes for a lovely, scenic backdrop.

Surprisingly, though, John Nancarrow never visited Milford! Nancarrow was back in Virginia, even though he owned the land here in Ohio. He sold 230 acres of the land to Philip Gatch. Gatch then sold part of his land to Ambrose Ranson, who sold some of his parcel to John Hageman. And that’s how Milford got its start!

4. Many hiking trails converge in Milford

The 6,800-mile American Discovery Trail meets up with several other trails here in Milford. The American Discovery Trail is the Mississippi River of trails, of sorts, while the others are tributaries. But if you want to explore this great state (and beyond!) on foot, Milford is a definite waypoint along your route. All roads (or trails, that is) converge here in Milford.

Roofing Contractors in Cincinnati Need To Prepare for Winter Too!

As the days become shorter, and the sun sets earlier each night, Cincinnati’s roofing contractors are getting ready for the freeze. Truth be told, the winter can be easier for roof work. The summertime’s humid, blazing heat, combined with scalding-hot roofing materials, can make for a tough situation. If it is 85 degrees out, your roof may be 115 degrees or hotter. Certainly, the winter has its issues too, but all are surmountable. If your roof is snowy, we can clear it in under an hour. Installing rubber roofs and shingle roofs is not recommended during the winter chill, but repair needs never sleep, even in subzero temperatures — so we don’t rest either. Thus, do not hesitate to contact Harper Siding & Roofing. We have no problem working in lower temperatures — truth be told, we love it.
