Recently, in West Erie, Pennsylvania, part of a roof collapsed under the weight of accumulated snowfall. It appears that the trusses gave in, causing a section of the metal roof to fall, landing on a few vehicles and other equipment. Any experienced Cincinnati roofer will tell you they are worried about this type of event happening in the Ohio snow, too.
The 30-foot-by-40-foot section of metal roofing fell due to the snow. The owner of the business was inside the building at the time, but thankfully was not injured.
The business whose roof collapsed, as it turns out, is a roofing business.
Thankfully, the damage was minimal, and there were no injuries. But it serves as a reminder that roof issues can happen to the best of us. Even roofing professionals are not immune to the limitations of winter conditions and older roof constructions.
