Particularly as we watch the heartbreaking destruction and flooding in Houston, it can help us to find inspiring stories of charity and collaboration. In the Cincinnati roofing industry, there are some bighearted people, as there are elsewhere in the US. This story from Jacksonville reminded us of that fact.

In 2017, the Every Shingle Heart program helped three Jacksonville families.
For Tina Velazquez, Hurricane Mathew was a devastating force. Her mother’s roof was ravaged by the hurricane. Velazquez, a veteran of the US Army who is disabled, had moved to Puerto Rico, but returned after Hurricane Mathew to help her mother. Her mother had had several strokes, and spent a lengthy time recovering in the hospital. All the while, her storm-wrecked roof was worsening in condition.
In Orange Park, a Clay County suburb of Jacksonville, Angie Billings was dealing with her own rough set of circumstances. Hurricane Mathew hit, causing leaking gashes in her roof, and more significantly, she began her fight with breast cancer. And days after her double mastectomy, her fiancé passed away, unexpectedly. For her, a new roof was just one more issue to contend with.
Ruby McMullen found herself in dire straits after Hurricane Mathew as well. The damage from the storm was so extensive that it almost made her lose her home. She could not afford to repair it, and foreclosure appeared to be imminent.
Every Shingle Heart was able to help all three of these families, by donating new roofs. It is a marvelously inspiring program, and we in the Cincinnati roofing community salute Reliant Roofing in Florida for their generosity and good will.
